This weekend I curled up on my sofa (Couch) to watch, for the second time, "
Facing the Giants". If you have not seen this film, what are you waiting for??? This is
an epic, modern day version of "David and Goliath" showing what happens when a small-town highschool's football team gets rocked by the love of Jesus. More importantly, it shows what happens when you face YOUR giants whilst holding-on to almighty God.
You can read the reviews
here.I am currently finishing Bill Johnson's book "
Dreaming with God" and maybe because of this, I sense that the
place of creativity within the Church is being restored. Facing the Giants is an example of creativity within a church that has the potential of reaching millions of people with a powerful message. Something that the pulpit would not be able to do. In some ways it is like
the TV screen and the computer have replaced the "pulpit" or "lectern" as public space. People cherish their "space" more then ever (At least in Western societies) and are ever more reluctant to engage in public than say a century ago.
Facing the Giants was created as a project by
Sherwood Baptist Church, where they began thinking out of the box for ways in which to reach people with the Gospel. Hats off to the Sherwood peeps! Their motto is
"Changing the world from Albany, Georgia"! WOW!
I yearn to see more high quality, values-based, material being put-out into holywood. It is indeed an invasion of Babylon - in this hour, nothing else will do.
